We live in an increasingly connected world and this is a development that cannot be stopped. It will bring improved living conditions and health for many, but also increased risks. Cyber security will no longer be a matter for larger companies, but rather something that concerns us all and a prerequisite for our society to function.
It is now obvious to most people that the digital transformation will affect nearly all branches, although not all at the same time. Sara Öhrvall is a co-founder and senior advisor at the consulting firm Mindmill Network, after many years as Bonnier’s digitalisation expert. She maintains that even branches that appear to be late in the process can be affected faster than they may realise. Lacking a digitalisation strategy at this stage can be expensive for a company.
Boliden’s mine automation programme is being led by Peter Burman. Even if it may sound like he works with developing smart digital solutions, his job is largely about establishing collaboration and promoting the mines as unique testing facilities. True digital transformation however, requires political decisions.
Can accurate predictions be made about serious terrorist attacks and future attacks on companies solely by analysing the flow of open information sources? This remains a fantasy for those who do not have vast resources at their disposal. But, there is another way. By combining Big Data handling with, among other things, semantic analysis and by clustering myriad small puzzle pieces, Recorded Future has acquired multinational companies and international security services as customers.
"I've participated in the Vasaloppet several times," says Christer Norström. "And two of my kids have competed both at junior and under-18 levels in cross-country skiing." Even though Christer does not have his own competition career to look back on, this has not stopped him from developing a training tool for recreational and professional skiers. A tool that would not have been possible to build only a few years ago.
"Things are definitely happening regarding digital transformation within Swedish industry. The problem, however, is that it's not enough." This was stated by Mats Agervi, and he should know what he's talking about, since he is the Head of Combient, a collaborative forum for some of Sweden's leading companies. The sole purpose of the forum is to promote collaboration within the group in order to expedite the successful digital transformation of member companies.
Regardless of how well-designed and well-built a product is, problems can always arise, and when that happens, they must be corrected as soon as possible. Models have also made their entry into this area, and one of the companies that uses models to provide information for troubleshooting is Volvo Group Trucks Technology.
For many years, the automotive industry has utilised models and simulations to minimise, for example, the amount of physical testing required for crash tests. Now, the industry is ready to take the next step which involves optimisation-driven development.
3D models are often created for use in design and construction, but they are difficult to use on phones and tablets. Swedish Donya Labs has an application, Simplygon, that solves the problem.
Scania is facing a major technological shift as part of its transition to simulation-based development. Vehicle development has traditionally relied heavily on testing, both in terms of design and verification at various stages. Demands on reliability are understandably extremely high.
