Real-time support for operational decision making

In preparation and in planning of your mobilization, you must know your adversarys´ and your own capabilities as well as the environment. The same applies also during your operations. In modern military operations, quickness is key; from information gathering to the execution. If you´re able to outrun your adversary, you have a good possibility of succeeding.  Good Situational Awareness (SA) is gained from Command and Control (C2) and through the experience as well as the education of the commanders.

Joint situational awareness to support decision-making

C2-systems support commanders´ and leaders´ decision making providing realistic and real-time situational picture, so that its correctly filtered and sufficient in quality. In the modern network-centric approach, amount of information is usually a challenge. What makes it problematic is that it´s hard to define what data to provide to which level of decision making, in such a way that it supports the decision making optimally, not saturating it. It also may vary what information there is to be published for joint fire purposes between different types of units. Commissioning the same C2 system for all stakeholders with various configuration/applications makes this joint situational awareness easier to sustain and develop. What is required for the general and for a platoon leader is different but can be presented in the same system.
