i-MET is Combitech’s weather and information systems concept for aviation, roads, shipping and military applications. The systems are in operation at a large number of sites, including over 120 airports.
One of the systems is AWOS (Automated Weather Observing Observation System), contribut to increased safety for thousands of passengers every hour and every minute, all over the world. Using a large number of sensors at the airport and Combitech’s system software, weather conditions are analysed at the airport in real time and reported automatically to air traffic control and to the aircraft via data link or over the radio. Other units at an airport, such as field maintenance, can also share the weather information via an associated web interface. AWOS is scalable and can be adapted for both small airports and major international airports with several runways.
IRIS (Integrated Real-time Information System), ATIS (Automatic Terminal Information Service) and VOLMET (Meteorological Information for Aircraft in Flight) and DRIWS (Digital Runway Incursion Warning System) are examples of other systems in the i-MET family that Combitech has developed for aviation.
With over 25 years’ experience developing integrated weather and information systems, coupled with considerable expertise within ATM, aviation and meteorology, Combitech is able to take overall responsibility for project deliveries. The system solutions are independent and can be integrated with programme systems and hardware provided by other suppliers. Combitech also supplies extensive weather consultancy services. The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) is a long-standing customer that has relied on our specialist skills in this area.
